    Description

Here is an extremely rare early vintage original autographed letter from and autographed by actress Norma Shearer (1902-1983) ,from 1942, in which she references as her recently finished movie Her Cardboard Lover, which was her last movie before she retired; evidently, she wrote this before she made the decision. Comes with original photo which was mailed to fan at the same time.
Norma Shearer (1903-1983) won one Best Actress Academy Award for The Divorcee (1929-1930), and she was nominated for five more: Their Own Desire (1929-1930), A Free Soul (1930-1931), The Barretts of Wimpole Street (1934), Romeo and Juliet (1936) and Marie Antoinette (1938). She was married to MGM producer Irving Thalberg until his early death (1936). Shearer turned down the starring role in Mrs. Miniver, and, by some accounts, did the same for the part of Scarlett O'Hara in Gone With the Wind. She retired from films after 1942. Minor paper loss right side (which looks like a minor stain, but isn't). Extremely rare.
Will ship worldwide. I always combine shipping on multiple orders.
Edith Norma Shearer (August 10, 1902 – June 12, 1983) was a Canadian-American actress who was active on film from 1919 through 1942. Shearer often played spunky, sexually liberated ingénues. She appeared in adaptations of Noël Coward, Eugene O'Neill, and William Shakespeare, and was the first five-time Academy Award acting nominee, winning Best Actress for The Divorcee (1930).
Reviewing Shearer's work, Mick LaSalle called her "the exemplar of sophisticated 1930s womanhood ... exploring love and sex with an honesty that would be considered frank by modern standards". He described her as a feminist pioneer, "the first American film actress to make it chic and acceptable to be single and not a virgin on screen".
