New York Long & Faithful Service Medal 30 Year Neck Medal Very rare Experimental. This is another interesting example that may be unqiue or at least extremely rare. This 30 year long service meal which is an extremely long military career about as long as they will let you serve in most cases we believe was awarded in the late 50s or early 60s. New york state was review thier medal policy and removing a lot of medals in the late 50s and early 60s due to the massive amount of money being spent on contracts. While the medal is similiar to the 30 year medal today they have never be issued at least since they were reinstated on a neck ribbon with a 30 year device. Official it does not even exist. Because of this in the new york state records there is a record of a few experiment pieces being issues in the late 50s and early 60s. It is recorded as unnumbered and was awarded when they first contemplated changing the design which they eventually did, it was made when the cross version was still available but these were much cheaper to make. The only possible recipient of this medal is Colonel Carlos G Webster Jr Chief of Staff NYNG Headquarters in 1959. It is veey possible he was issued this unique medal at a ceremony in 1959 as a trial for the new design which would be implemented some almost 30 years later. This came with this research from a very extensive New York medal collection i will be liqudation over the next few weeks here or at least listing. Very odd and possibly qunie medal! I do support the research that was done and believe this is the experimental piece issued to Webster interesting the 30 year device is held on by pins making it interchangeable no such interchangeable number medal is in existence so i believe without a shadow of a doubt this is the unique experimental piece issued to Colonel Webster.
