This auction is for the six (6) items pictured and described here. Each is a
12.5" x 19" issue of the Illustrated Current News
- a one-page news publication that was typically posted in store windows to attract potential customers.
I do not know if these are original issue, or reproductions
. They have a bit of a glossy finish, and are in mostly very good condition, with no holes or creasing through the main photo, and a couple having a bit of minor edge ruffling or corner bend. I tried to highlight the main issues in the photos. These posters do not have folds down the middle, as some I've seen listed have. I picked up a collection a few years ago, and decided to sell some of them in lots now as I try to thin out my collection.
All six of these are
dated in the 1930s or 1940
, and
all feature baseball headlines of the times with many Hall-of-Famers
of the era.
The items include:
1934 All-Star Game, with
Carl Hubbell
and the HOF sluggers he famously struck out in succession -
Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Jimmy Foxx
, and others
One featuring
Carl Hubbell (Giants)
and his screwball, and one featuring
Johnny Vander Meer (Reds)
after his back-to-back no hitters!
The other three are
pennant-winning headlines for the Cincinnati Reds (1940) and Detroit Tigers (1934)
, along with the
1934 World Series between the Tigers and St. Louis Cardinals
Very cool collectables, particularly if you are a history buff or fan of this era! Would look great framed as part of a memorabilia display.
